Seated in Heavenly Places

Seated in Heavenly Places

Revelation 3:19-4:1 (NASB) says, “19‘Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline; therefore be zealous and repent. 20‘Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me. 21‘He who overcomes, I will grant to him to sit down with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne. 22‘He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.

1After these things I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven, and the first voice which I had heard, like the sound of a trumpet speaking with me, said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after these things.”

Here is how you become seated in heavenly places:

  1. Zealous repent of a lukewarm condition.
  2. Answer the door when God is knocking. He is longing for communion and relationship. It’s more than knowing this truth, but walking in it. God’s people are destroyed for the lack of knowledge, but knowledge can “puff up”, and this pride is also self-destructive! Knowledge of the Word without revelation that brings about transformation profits nothing!
  3. Be an overcomer. You cannot be seated until you overcome!
  4. Live under an open heaven! This is perpetual revival because there is an open invitation to, “Come up here. Come up now!”

Ephesians 1:15-2:7 (KJV) says, “15Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints, 16Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; 17That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: 18The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, 19And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, 20Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, 21Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: 22And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, 23Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.

1And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, 2in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience. 3Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest. 4But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), 6and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.”

What does it mean to be seated in heavenly places? It signifies a place of heavenly authority, that your fellowship is in kingship. When someone typically sits down, it is to rest or even eat. When you are co-seated with Christ, you enter into rest. You refuse to allow fear or anxiety to remove you from your seat. As part of a a kingly line, we do not have to work our lives away. We do not have earn salvation or God’s love, and just as a king can be seated and with his authority sign decrees into law, with your words and the backing of heaven you can decree things into existence. It is why Isaiah 54:17 says, “No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.” Your inheritance as a son or daughter is to condemn every weapon based from any negative word spoke over or against you! Those words are seeds that seek to become root so that forms your identity and curses your purpose. But as part of a royal kingship, you have authority to condemn those words that seem to hold so much power. It is the only place in scripture where God gives us the authority to condemn something. We do not condemn people in religious judgment because there is no condemnation to those in Christ Jesus, but we condemn those words (Romans 8:1). The key is with your own mouth say, “I condemn those words in the name of Jesus Christ.” Satan is seated in lies, and you sure do not have to make room for him in your heart. You can expose the lies of the enemy and shut the door to them. Whatever word you believe will be the exact word that holds authority over your life. So, it even may be abuse as a child, but go back to that moment(s) where those words were spoken over you, release those people by forgiving them and shut the door to the lies of the enemy!

You do not have to pray fancy words in order to win God’s attention, but you are co-seated with Christ. This means that what belongs to Jesus also belongs to you, and the same authority He has in heaven is the same authority you have on this earth! That is why Jesus said, “Greater works shall you do because I go to the Father” (John 14:12), and 1 John 4:17 says, “As He is so are we in this world (1 John 4:17). We do not have to be bound by timidity in doubt and fear, but we can come boldly to the throne of grace (Hebrews 4:16).

The only times it appears in scripture that Jesus is not seated beside the Father in intercession are when Stephen saw Him standing at the right hand of the Father (Acts 7:55) and when He is seen on a white horse (Revelation 19:13; Zechariah 14:1-15). In both cases, they were to defend the righteous! When Stephen stood up for Christ, Christ was seen in heaven standing up for him. Since Stephen was seated spiritually in heavenly places, the moment He stood up spiritually, Jesus stood in alignment and agreement with Him. At the end of the age, the righteous remnant who refuses to compromise God will fight for them. Your faithfulness to God, nearness to the Father’s heart and refusal to compromise is your greatest defense. Your worship and prayers to God are your greatest defense, especially when the Holy Spirit prays through you and you are equipped with the mind of Christ! It is about being in alignment and agreement with heaven.

What you come in agreement with is what will be sustained not only in your personal life, but also in the region. We need to take our seat of authority and realize as the body of Christ principalities are under our feet. This how we seated with Christ: we are the body, fulfilling our role, calling and function. We are not dismembered from the head, but we are in perfect alignment, following the commands of the mind of Christ. It is not like Jesus’ head is above principalities and His body is below it, but the church’s lack of faith sure does paint that kind of picture! It is as though we are paralyzed, unable to move at the direction of the Holy Spirit and giving the principalities that Christ humiliated perfect positioning over the region. Sins control a region because the church refuses to fulfill its position of authority given to them by God the Father through Jesus Christ! Prayer is the demonstration of authority over principalities because we align ourselves with the intercession taking place in heaven and we hear the voice of God so we can implement the strategies of the kingdom of heaven in obedience to His Word!

A group of people that you seen on the thrones surrounding the throne of God are 24 elders. This is why eldership is important because it is what surrounds His throne! These 24 elders are made up with the sons of Jacob and the disciples of Christ, reflecting the bridging of two covenants with Jesus at the center. The only times these elders leave their seat is to worship God! (Revelation 5:14; 7:11; 11:16; 19:4) So, just as it is in heaven so must it be on earth. The only time you step out of your seat is not to be overwhelmed with anxiety or fear, but to worship God as He is the center of your focus, adoration and attention!

These elders have in their hands a harp, which represents worship, and golden vials full of odors, which represent the prayers of the saints. According to Romans 8:17-39, the purpose of intercession is for the Spirit to pray for us in alignment with the groaning of this world, which waits for the manifestation of the sons of God. It is the spirit of adoption being released upon a generation so that we can be co-heirs with Christ, meaning that what belongs to Christ belongs to us, and what authority He has we also have! If we suffer with Him, we will also reign with Him, for the sufferings of the present time cannot be compared to the glory which shall be revealed in us (Romans 8:18). It is why affliction is important because it will always precede growth. Suffering propels you into a dependence and infilling of the glory of God. Everything the enemy has meant for evil God will turn around and make it good, for He makes all things work together for the good to those who love Him and are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28).

In order for the church to take its rightful seat of authority in the place of devotion to the Father’s heart instead of trying to intercede carnally out of a place of fear and worry, a resurrection must take place. Proverbs 29:25 (TPT) says, “Fear and intimidation is a trap that holds you back. But when you place your confidence in the Lord, you will be seated in the high place.” A death to self and religion must occur! Too many in the church are born again and receive salvation, but then they stop at the place. They are spiritually resurrected into a new creation, but they never step into their seat of authority. They allow the circumstances around them to move them and dictate their faith. They are either too busy, lazy or unlearned to pray and enter into personal devotion to God, but today is a day we repent and take our seat of authority, a destined place with and in Jesus Christ!
